Matters in connection wi,th the visit of H.M.S. New Zealand to Lyttelton were discussed at a largely-attended meeting of the Executive , Jiiutertaininent Committee iield last evening, in the City Council Cnambers. xhe Mayor (Air H. Holland; presided, and those, present included the Alayors of several suburban iiorougn Councils, as well as chairmen and representatives" of other local bodies. ...^
The chairman made feeling reference to tho recent death ot Mr Colin Cook, who had been a member of the committee, and it was decided , to convey the sincere sympathy of Ithe meeting to his widow in her bereavement. *: ■
After referring to general matters, the Mayor suggested that Captain Halsey, of H'.M.S. New Zealand, should be accorded a civic'reception when he paid his formal call, vlt would be de-f sirable to secure a hall or theatre and invite the public. He was sure tho public would attend in large numbers.
Mr A. Kaye said that it, was a matter of naval etiquette, and it would be advisable to consult Captain Halsey upon the point. Tho Mayor would call upon Captain Halsey in his official capacity, and Captain Halsey would then visit the Mayor in- his official capacity.
Various views were expressed upon the matter, and Mr J. J. i>ougall moved: "That a civic reception should be accorded Captain Halsey, subject to his approval, and that arrangements should be-left in the Mayor's hands."
