WAIAU.
How dangerous it is for children to obtain possession of firearms was demonstrated in Waiau 'on Saturday evening. Several children of one of the Hawkswood road settlers, unknown to the parents, secured a- douole barrel gun, and either the gun was left loaded or they had also got hold of cartridges and loaded it themselves. At any rate, the parents were startled by hearing the gun discharged in the next room. Hasty investigation showed one of iha youngsters in possession of the gun and two large holes in tho wall where the 6hot hfld gone- through. Beyond the damage to the room no harm was doss.
