THE MEAT MARKET.

Writing under date January 17th, Messrs 14. Fitter and Sons, London, say:—'-The supplies of meat generally are quite equal to the demand, the dei mand being slackened to some extent I under the influence of weather conditions. Scotch mutton is now arriving on the market in larger quantities, and meeting a good demand at firm prices, but at the moment the prices have a weakening tendency. English mutton is coming to hand in fair quantities, and is in steady demand. The arrivals of Irish and Butch mutton are now very light. There is very little New Zealand mutton on the market as yet. The arrivals lately to hand, in nice bright condition, are bein_ enquired for, aud are selling at very favourable prices. The prospects for the near future are encouraging. There havo been some new season lambs from the North Island on the market. They are of very nice quality, and considering the time of year are meeting with a ready sale at very favourable prices. The prospects for the season are mast encouraging. The supply of Argentine chilled beef has exceeded the demand, and low prices are the result. This greatly atfects the salo of frozen beef, and very littlo is beinjj moved at present- quotations. Thero has been an in-

crease in the supply of pork, the demand continues 'good, but prices are slightly easier."
