CHEVIOT R.C'S ANNUAL MEETING.

(SPECIAL TO ' TTIB PRESS. ) CHEVIOT, January 1. " On the Mackenzie Domain to-day, and under favourable weather conditions, the Cheviot Racing Club held its Annual New Year Meeting, the most successful in tho history of the club. Tho attendance of visitors. wa« a record, the receipts at tho gato amounting to £24, as against JEIS last year. Though in several events tho fields wero small, sport all round was interesting, and neither accident nor hitch occurred to mar the pleasure of tho day's s outing. Tho officials, with an able secretary in Mr L. E. Laiigcscn, bad made excellent arrangements, and tho races were run off well up to timo. Tho course was in good order, and amongst other improvements was a new judge's box. The principle event of the day was the Cheviot Cup Handicap, in which there wero only two starters; the winner being Mr H. Leaman'a Goldsceker, who ran the mile and o. half " in 2min 45 4-sscc. Both tho trotting events wero won by Ariadne, a promising five-year-old mare by Lord Althorpe, and owned by Mr P. Dalton. Results: — HACK HURDLE RACE HANDICAP, of 13 guineas. Ono milo and a, half. J.
