MUNICIPAL SUNDAY.
RECOGNITION OF THE WORK OF THE CHURCHES. Tho Mayor (Mr H. Holland) at the meeting of tho City Council lasfc niaht, brought tip the question of establishing a Municipal Sunday in Christchurch. He said that the idea might, bo new in New Zealand, but it was net by any means new in tho municipalities of the Old Country. It seemed to him a proper proceeding that the Council should recognise tho work being d'ono by tho Churches by tho Mayor and Councillors and tho City Council staft officially attending church on one Sunday during the year. Anyone with conscientious objections would not be called upon to attend. The different Churches could bo visited in turn. They could take the Anglican Cathedral to start with, and in succeeding years visit the londins churches of uenominations. lie moved: —"That tiie fourth Sunday in February next year bo set apart as Municipal Sunday." Cr. E. Smith seconded the motion, and snid that it -would be only following tho system that had bren adopted # by tho Fire Brigade for the past thirty rears. Cr. Millar supported the motion, and snid that if it did tho councillors as much L'ond as it did the Firo Brigade, it would bo much appreciated. The motion was agreed to.
