Owing to the rain yesterday morning, there was but a small entry at the Oxford sales, only about 400 sheep being yarded. Prices were: —Shorn fat wethers 20s, unshorn fat ewes 18s, sound-mouth unshorn ewes, with lambs (all counted) 13s 3d, four and six-tooth shorn store wethers 17s.

VINTAGE OF 1912

Reports received in London from the wine districts regarding this -year's vintage states- that port, \liough smaller in quantity than anticipated, is expected to be of fine quality, and as regards burgundy a useful wine is hoped for. Champagne, it is stated (says the "Daily Mail" of October 12th) can only be of medium quality, but as stocks are so short the price will be high. Of claret the quantity is larger than expected, and it may be luscious, soft, and delicato. Hock and Moselle are about half the average in quantity; Madeira is better than last year, but the quantity is less, and Cognac brandy is an average yield, and the quality is expected to be excellent.
