LABOUR REPRESENTATION COMMITTEE.
A special meeting of the Executive of tho North Canterbury Labour Representation Committee was held in tho Trades Hall last evening. Present :—Messrs H. Hunter (chairman), W. Enson, D. G. Sullivan, J. Lyness, H. J. Shaw, E. Peek, E. F. Shadbclt, R Hpppy, and E. Cordery. The following recorriniendations to the General Committee were • carried: — (1) That a sub-committee be set up to inaugurate a Saturday half-holiday campaign in connection with the forthcoming municipal elections; te prepare tho necessary petition and obtain the signatures of those willing to request that a poll be taken on the subject.
(2) That all the local branches of tho Labour Party and unions be written to and urged to tako steps to enrol electors upon the district electors'' list, and that enrolment forms be secured and distributed with that object.
(3) That all branches of the Labour Party, and unions affiliated, be requested to nominate candidates for selection by the Labour Representation Committee to contest the wholo of tho seats upon tho Christchurch City Council and other local bodies in closo proa mity to Christcluirch, such nominations to close with the committee on January 31st, 1913. (4) That tho whole of the nominations received be submitted to the affiliated bodies, and a ballot of tho whole of the members of those bodies be taken to select the required number of candidates for the various wards and boroughs. These recommendations will be submitted to the General Committee at its meeting on (Monday next.
