MATCHLESS" MOTOR CYCLES.

On this stand thero is displayed a representative lot of these well-known machines. All tho machines on view aro of the "Special Colonial Model, and tho manufacturers aro apparently tho only firm who have catered for overseas requirements by listing a special machine. Attention is drawn to several manifest advantages ns follow: —Tho road rims are of much stouter gauge material than is employed in usual motor-cycle practice, the wheels aro all fitted with lOg spok.s, there is Citi minimum clearance underneath the engines, and provision is made to carry two gallons of petrol if the occasion arises. This last is a valuable feature much appreciated by motor cycling business men,, and with a motor-cycle so consistently economical as the "Matchless," gives a very wide radius without need of a refill. _ The models oil*" view cover almost \ every requirement. Two neat littlo machines aro the 2J h.p. models fitted with three-speed gear and free engine, . one being a standard niodel and tho other a lady's machine. It is worthy of note that the only ladies' models actually sold and in daily uso in Mew.. Zealand are similar to the machine displayed. The next machines in order of horse-power are the 3J- h.p. fixed or freo engine models, both of which are too well-known to need much comment. They are staunch, reliable machines, for any sort of work. A new and most excellent machine introduced for tho first timo is the lijrht twin-cylinder, marketed in 8 h.p. and 4 h.p. Although only recently marketed, theso machines have immediately sprung into favour, their silent . running creating a most favourable impression wherever they are seen. The capabilities of tho small twin in tho way of- hill-climbihg are nothing short of marvellous, and it is no exaggeration whatever to state that they wiil climb any hill in New Zealand with a rideable surface. They are not racing engines, but are built to give a maximum of easy running and flexibility, and to maintain, if necessary, a high average speed over long distances. Tho "Matchless" exhibit is completed by two magnificent twin-cylinder machines of 6 and 8 h.p. respectively. Tho makers have always made a fine twin model, and there is no rival to seriously challenge their supremacy. The sweeping victories that fall to them on road, hill,-or racing track, are' sufficient testimony to the fact that the "Matchless" models are the best motor-cycles made. Tho exhibit would have been further extended by the inclusion of some new models of striking design, also speed, machines, but owing to the late arrival of s.s. Tainui this was rendered impossible. The Matchless Motor Agency will, however, be pleased to show these to anyone interested at their showrooms, 92 Manchester street, any timo next week. ■..'■•*
