LYTTELTON WATERSIDE WORKERS' ACTTON.
SUBSTANTIAL FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE. A mass meeting of the members ot tho Lyttelton ' .Stevedores* Union was held yesterday morning in the Coronation Hall. Tho meeting started at 8.30 a.m., and-by arrangement with the shipping companies, all work was suspended while tho meeting was in pro- - gress Proceedings terminated at ten o'clock, and work at the vessels in port was then started Reporters were not admitted, but a "Press" representative subsequently i-aw the,secretary of. the Union (Mr H. Voyce), who-stated that there was a largo attendance at the meeting, ihe report -of .the delegates to the recent ♦conference of the Federation of Labour, to which the Union is affiliated, was presented by Messrs H. Voyce and t*. Lurch, who dealt fully.,with the work of the conference. Tho report was received and adopted. The Waihi strike was then discussed, and it was decided to vote the sum oi £100 from the Union's funds, and to make a weekly levy of 2s 6d per member in aid of the strikers and their families during tho currency of the strike.
