DRUNKENNESS. * A first ofFender, charged with drunkenness, was convicted and fined os and costs, in default twenty-four hours' imprisonment. DESERTION. Charles Shaw, a seaman lawfully engaged on board tho American schooner Alumna, was charged with having . deserted from the vessel on June Bth. He pleaded not guilty, hut the master, Captain O. T. Olsen, stated, that accused had done no work since Wednesday last. Ho left the shin, and on Saturday went on board to take away his clothes. He was sentenced te ono month's imprisonment, and was ordered te be put on board when the vessel was ready to leave port. Austin Gibbons, William Hamilton, and Thomas Corcoran, seamen lawfully engaged on board the Union Steam Ship, Company's steamer Karori, wero charged with having been absent without leave from tho vessel at Timaru, on June 3rd. They pleaded not guilty. It was stated that the three men had bought .return' tickets at Timaru, and had gone to Christchurch. Thoy hnd made no attempt to return to their steamer, which had left Timaru on Wednesday, sth inst. They were sentenced to seven days' imprisonment.
