ASHBURTON.
At the meeting of the committee of the Ashburt.on A. and P. Association on Tuesday, when the question of the necessity of the erection of a grandstand was being discussed.-Mr Thomas Bullock said he was pleased to be able to announce that Mr John Grigg, of Longbcach, had generously offered to give £50 towards the cost of the erection of the proposed stand. This makes the second donation of £50, Mr Bullock himself having made a .similar offer a year ago. Apart from these two promised donations, the Association lias a small sum in hand from various subscribers, and there isTovcry prospect of a stand being built in time for the next Summer Show.
A truck of. lime, which .had been.left standing at the,Ashburtoh railway station during the rain on Tuesday night, was discovered to be on fire shortly before 6 a.m. yesterday. Members of the fire brigade turned out, but wore unable tf> render any assistance, and finally .the railway men overturned the truck, 'which was slightly damaged, and the lime was allowed to burn out.
