ASHBURTON STOCK MARKET
Harvest operations in many of tho districts of the Ashburton County being practically over, there was a large attendance at the weekly stock sale held at the Ashburton yards yesterday, and the entry, showed an increase on last week's totals, all stores. The yarding comprised 8320 sheep, of these 235 wero fat ewes. -18 fat wethers, 979 fat lambs, and 7058 stores. Tlie yarding of fat sheep-was fully 1000 short of tho previous week's total,, and the quality being an improvement on late markets, there was keen competition, and prices showed a slight rise, ewes making up to 18s 6d, wethers to 21s. and lambs to 17s 7d. Prices obtained were as follows: —Prime ewes 13s 8d to 15s, extra prime 18s Gd. medium weights lis to 12s, light weights 9s 2d to 10s 2d; prime wethers 17s 9d to 21s others 34s 6d to los 6d; prime freezing lambs 15s to 16s 3d, extra heavy 17s to 17s 7d, others 13s 8d to 14s. Tho yarding of store sheep was about 2000 in excess of last week's totals, but there was absolutely no demand, and of tlie 7058 sheep yarded, only 1560 were sold by auction. Of the four linos of two-tooth offered, prices ranged from los 9d to 17s 6d, every lino being passed. The sales were as follows: — 41 sound-mouth threo-quarterbred ewes lis. 59 cull threo-quarterbred lambs (mixed sexes) 7s sd. 52 sound-mouth threo-quarterbred ewes 10s Gd, 46 cull three-quarterbred lambs (mixed sexes) 7s 7d. 100 full and failing-mouth halfbred ewes Bs. 107 at 7s°Btl, 170 crossbred lambs'(mixed sexes) Us 9d, 72 half and three-quar-terbred lambs at 12s 9d. 130 .nt 12* lid. 268 crossbred lambs at 12s sd. 262 full and failing-mouth three-quarterbred ' ovvw . 7s 7d", 153 at 6s 9d, 100 threequarterbred lambs (mixed sexes) 12s lOd.
