THE OTIRA TROUBLE SETTLED.

(Sr-ECIAL TO "THE PRESS , ")

GREYMOUTH, March 18,

Afc the conference yesterday, tho Otira dispute was settled, and work was resumed as usual to-day. Tho men, who -were reinstated, will work four hours in wet places, with eight hours off. In all other respects the whole matter of tho new agreement is in the hands of tho Federation of Labour

Work proceeded at tho tunnel to-day as usual. It annears that "the face" at the present time is exceedingly wet on account of the terminal oart 6f tho tunnel being exactly under" the Otira rii-er-bed. Water is spurting into the faco from all directions, and work has to be carried on in water practically all tho time. Of course, condition's might change any moment. Certainly a better state of affairs would be hailed with delight by tho management as well as by the men.
