PORT OF WELLINGTON.
FIGURES FOR THE YEAR
(I'IJESS ASSOCIATION , TKIJXJRAM.) WELLINGTON, March 18. Some, interesting figures dealing with tho progress of Wellington port wero given by tho chairman (Mr Fletcher), at tho annual meeting of the Board today. The goods passing inwards totalled 479,806 tons, as against 435,439 tons the previous year, being an increaso of 44,307. This volume of business bus only been exceeded on ono occasion, viz., in 1907-8, known as the "boom year." For'tho period to September 3.oth, the transhipments amounted to 138,235 tons, an increase of 11,522 tons. Tin's is a record for the port, and bears testimony to the excellent facilities given. Tho tonnage of vessels entering port also exceeded the previous record, tho number of vessels being 3637, with a net tonnage of 2.J)95,201 tons. The past year has boon mi exceptional one, the"tonnage of overseas shipping having risen to 2.0:)G,307 tons. and is lCO.olo tons higher than that of the previous year. Tho Chairman added that the financial position of tho. Board was most satisfactory, and- was never in a better condition. .■,■'.'
