THE OCCUPATION OR MARGHEB.
A DESPERATE BATTLE
United Press Association—By Electrio Telegraph—Copyright (Received March Ist, 9.40 n.m.) ROME, March 1. The official account of tho occupation of Margheb says that the Italians secretly assembled at daybreak, and in silence advanced 1 to the foot of the heights, when a dash was made for tho position held by the Turks and Arabs. A desperate resistance was encountered, until a bayonet charge killed the majority of tho defenders, including the Turkish Commander and an Arab chief. An hour and a half after the commencement of tho fight the Italians wero entrenched on the heights.
Turks and Arabs attacked the position throughout the day. The Italians replied, with a murderous fire from machine guns and artillery ut point blank range, which did terrific execution, and drove off the invaders. Five hundred Arabs were killed. '
