• » ■ .SOUTH AUSTRALIAN FIREMEN ON STRIKE. THE SITUATION SERIOUS. United Press Association—By Electrio Telegraph—Copyright. ADELAIDE, February 26. The firemen of all the permanent staffs throughout the State have struck. The Board has made arrangements to man three appliances with volunteers at the Metropolitan station, and the .suburban stations will bo proportionately provided for. The volunteers, were subjected to a hostile demonstration by tho strikers, who are picketing the stations, wbich tho police are guarding. Four alarms were received and the volunteers responded well, but all proved to be false alarms. Tho Board has ordered th© managers of all places of publio entertainment to appoint men from their own staffs to attend to.the fire appliances. Business firms regard the situation as serious, for, in the event of a big outbreak, it wouid be impossible for tho depleted staffs to cope with the flames. HOTEL EMPLOYEES OUT. The hotel employees at Broken Hill have struck, with the exception of the employees of four hotels and three working men's clubs, which are paying according to the union log. The hotelare closed absolutely, with the exception of one bar, which the proprietors are managing.
