KAIAPOI.
(Beforo Mr R. "Wylic, J.P.) A first offender for drunkenness, who was arrested while illegally on private premises, was convicted and discharged. (Beforo Mr T. A. B. Bailey, S.M.) B. A. Knight was charged with assaulting Eose Wesley, a married woman, at "Waikuku beach on December 22nd. The prosecutor and two children stated that accused and a man named O'Shae arrived at the houso between 8 and 9 p.m. Knight asked if her husband was at homo and he then stated ho had come to take possession. Sho tried to keep him out, when, he seized her by the shoulder and tore her blouse. In defence, accused said he went to collect an account. Ho denied using any violence, while on the other hand defendant's son of fifteen threatened them with a gun, and O'Shao received a cut with a stock-whip. Both accused and O'Shae admitted previous convictions. Accused was sentenced to fourteen days with hard labour. B. Knight was convicted on two charges of obtaining liquor whon prohibited and committed to Rotoroa Institute for two years. A charge against Michael O'Shae of having no lawful visible means of support was adjourned for a fortnight. The same defendant was proved to have supplied Knight with liquor, knowing him to be a prohibited person, and was fined £5 or a month's imprisonment. Time to pay the fine was refused.
