Tho first round oi the Championship Singlcß was completed by Joynt defeating Miss Gerard, after a very long game, ; 1/aarie beating Wilfred AVhite, of Kmaru, j after a good tight, and Macfarlane boating Miss Gosaet. This last was a good match. 31isa Gosset, who was 6 hoops behind, had. to peg out ono of Maciurlanc'e rovers, but lie Unessed for position, and hit the winning peg with a capital Jong shot. In the eecond round Perm and Murray Ayusloy had a very hard game, tho S"endalton ■ playeT winning by 4 points. Macfairlano scored o very meritorious win over 1/aurio, and Clark found-time to snatch a hurried hour, and in it to defeat Lill. Capital were the contests in Division B. Miss Parsons—one -of the moat promising of the younger players —secured' two capital wins, putting out in ' turn Mra Johnson and Mrs Denham, the latter after a great fight.' She will meet Williams in tho final to-morrow, and with, her excellent shooting should ran. him hard. In tho Ladies' Championship Mrs Hobbs nnd Miss Crowehaw gnre Mies Butherfon tir.d Miss Smith excellent games before suecvmbing, but tho most brilliant game' of all was the one in which Miss , Buddo do-•fc-ated Mjs Pinckney. Miss' Buddo had* one . "ball pegged nut, but ran the Rover Hoop with the euryiyor, and running back through the hoop,'hit the winning peg in brilliant, fashion. - ■ I In the Club Pairs Mrs Brown andi MrsS( Cretan (United) were only beaten by a small margin by Mrs Lill and Mrs Hamilton (Sumner), who in their turn made a splendid . fipht with thoir first club pair, Mra Craw-[ ford and Chambers, whilst the second pair,.' Lill and Miss Gosset went down before Mr nnd Mrs Joynt (Temuka), who played ex- ( ccllent croquet. Buttprwortb. and Mre' JMidgley made an excellent combination, and defeating* in turn Mies White and Wilfred . Vrhite, and Barton and Miss Buddo, are dewn to moot Mrs Crawford and Chambers in tho third Tound. Mrs MSdgloy'e T-as excellent throughout both matches, and one would think that her partner, had " hpd provious experience of club poire. Again did tho Handicap produce a crop of excellent games. Bmckburne, with the aid of 2 bisques, ' psve Chambers an excellent game, and Chambers only finally got in by hia loqtietted bftU glancing off a wire, and scoring. Lill, who leceived 11 bisques, beat Mrs Pearce, rho in evidently a good deal out of practice. Mre AVill, who got 1J bisques, defeated Ziealer in first-rate stylo. She ■meets Butterwortji in • tho semi-final, and having half a. bisque moro than last year, is likoly to rt-verse the very narrow . defeat she then Biistnincd. Buttcrworth got into the eecond Tcimd by just beating Perm. Ho recovered tho loss of tho toss by a "tice" opening, but 1 firnlly Perm wen,t out to pog out his op- | pouent, and iinfortunately Tolled up against k v.ire, nnd this cost him tho match. In thi» second division Miss Crawshaw again meets Miss Smith Both ladies are playing ' excellent croquet, but tho beat game was the rtno in which Miss Go'set defeated Hits ■Rutherford. Both Indies; playintr from scratch, played coneistently well, y Jnrdljr a mi°take, and with much brilliancy. In the third division, Mrs D. E. I AVcod, receiving 1J bisanes, trained a most meritorious win over Mrs McOwen. 'l'ho . new and tho lawna appeared to give . peoeral satisfwtion, ar.d the hijrh standard of play showed how much has been learned from last year's experiences. Mrs Poarce's defeat mnkee tho for the championship.! »1! the more tincertnin. Nine players aTe. still luft in. Ploy will be-reaumed, wet or fine, at 9.1-5 this morning. ' '.' • •
