CASUALTIES.
SUICIDE OF EX-DETECTIVE BENJAMIN. (PRESS ASSOCIAIION TELEGRAM.)
PAL-UERSTON N., November 17. Ex-Detective Lionel Uenjauiin, who was well known in various parte of the Dominion, and who was stationed at various times at Chiistchurch, Wellington, VVanganui and Napier, shot himself at his residence this evening. Hβ had apparently been in normal spirits, and had been busy all day re-arranging his house. After dinner lie went to his room and put a revolver bullet into hk temple. He remained alive at the hospital, unconscious, until after eleven o'clock to-night, when ho died. No reason is assigned for the deed, but i( is said that Benjamin, who has kept himself in fine condition by physical culture since he left the police force somo fivo yeans ago, has suffered recently from internal pains. He leaves a widow, two sons, and a 6tep-daughter.
