DETAILS OF THE DISCUSSION.
LINKING THE EMPIRE BY WIRELESS. Sir Joseph Ward, in urging that a chain of wireless stations should be established, said that tho scheme would mako tho Empiro largely independent of cables in the event of an emorgency. Mr Herbert Samuol, PostmasterGeneral, said that it was desirable that a chain should 'vo established throughout tho Empire, strategically and commercially. Tho Homo Government considered that it should be State-owned, and speedily established. He proposed beginning with six stations, one each in England, Cyprus, Aden, Bombay, Singapore, and Australia. Hence Britain would be linked right through with New Zealand. It might be desirable to get one of tho wireless companies to erect the stations, and failing satisfactory terms, the Admiralty might undertake the work. Each of the Dominions should bear tho cost of the local stations, but the cost of the station at Singapore, which would be exclusively a connecting link, would bo bofno equally by all.
Mr de Graaf, South African Post-master-General, supported tho proposals, and said that whon -the Aden station was erected, South Africa would consider the erection of high-power station as a link.
Mr Samuel suggested the pooling of working expenses and receipts.
