ANNUAL MEETING.

The forty-first annual meeting of the Northern Agricultural and Pastoral Society was held in its rooms at Rangiora on Friday evening. There was an attendance of about thirty-five members. Mr C. Leech, president, occupied the

chair. . Mr A. S. The principal items ol expenditure were:—Prizes £429 las fad, printing and advertising £120 14s W, sundries £140 3s. oiUcials £42 2s, improvements £45 IDs Od, insurance, stamps, etc. £42 Cs od. Tho assets including show grounds, etc. were £llot> 5s 4d The liabilities totalled ii-J&o 8 Gd, credit balance £1000 Is lOd. The accounts had been audited by Mr (.. l. Jennings. . . Th« Chairman, moving its adoption and reviewing the report, was pleased with the results iv regard to entries and attendants. Tho membership tlianks to Mr J. W. foster, creased to 300 and when their jubilee came in 1-16 should be increased to 500. He inclined to believe that the Winter Show would he one of the best in Canterbury. He would like to see a building erected for the committee and judges. He acknowledged Mr U King's services in looking after tho grounds and buildings. He then pointed out that thero was a need for new and moro convenient grounds nearer Itangiora where the stock sales and the shows could be held. At present an ideal site on the south town belt was available and there was a prospect of selling tho existing show ground for a public cemetery. The new site was convenient in every sense, level and well drained. Ho tendered thanks to all wl:;> had assisted the society. _ . "Mr !■'. Beker seconded the motion. Mr F. Horrell considered the financial statement was satisfactory. Of the chairman's proposal it was rather a surprise, but tho accommodation of tho present ground, was none too large for their purposes. . Clarkson and A. Mcintosh: treasurer, Mr. Clarkson, (re-elected), Mr C. I. Jennings, auditor, Messrs D. Boyce, J. Brosnan, J. Carmichael. G. Garrett, T. S. Hanna, F. Horrell. A. W. Ironside, J. Johns, W. A. Kelcher S. Gibbs, C. King, T. Leech, W. Mcintosh, R. Marshall F. Merrin, R. Mcintosh, J. H. Power, T. Pulley, "VV. Scoone, C. E. Skeiington, W. Stalker. T. Skevington, A. H. Stokes and J. D. Wylie. • On Mr Horrell's motion a vote of thanks was passed to the outgoing officers. A similar vote of thanks to tho committee was carried. Mr Clarkson moved, Mr VanAsch seconded: —"That tho Finance and General Committeo consider the plans presented for on office for the secretary, committee, judges, and the Press, the building to cost £150. —The motion was carried* It was decided all membere of the general committee for ten years be ex officio members of the committee. The annual dinner was held in tho Oddfellows' Hall, when about fifty sat down to an excellent repast. Mr C. Leech occupied the chair. The toast of "The King" was greeted with tbe National Anthem. Mr J. Stevenson proposed the toast of "The Northern Agricultural Association," and referred to the necessity for breeding seeds and . roots as well aa stock of various kinds. In reply the Chairman referred to the prosperity of farming, but a« their pro- j ducts depended for their salo upon the Mark Lane prices, it was necessary to address themselves to close farming and the eradication of noxious weeds. Th'e chairman then presented the McTntosh Memorial Cup, won by Mr J. D. Wyllie, of Sefton, and the championship for two-year-old draughts to Mr J, Wells, of Oxford. Mr W. Stalker received the silver cup given by the president for farm roots at the winter show.

Mr J. L. Wilson, by request, presented to the Association a large portrait of the late Hon. G. Leslie Lee, who wns one of the Provisional Committee which brought the society into existence in AuCTist, 18G6. nnd its second president. The Chairman replied that although the Hon Mr Lee livpd before their time, they appreciated very highly the honour of being able to hnve such a reminder of one who had helped to lay thc foundations. Other toasts wero duly honoured. Messrs Cronp, Sedmnn. A. Rowe, and J. G : provided a mry-f. enjoyable programme of musical selections.
