THE REFERENDA.
THE PROPOSALS REJECTED
LITTLE INTEREST IN THE ISSUES
United Press Association—By Elsctrio Telegraph—Copyright. SYDNEY, April 27. Although the counting is incomplete, it appears certain that both referenda votes have been negatived by a big majority. West Australia is the only State where the affirmative is leading. The present figures show aggregate "No" majorities for increased legislative powers of 168,913, and for controlling monopolies cf 152,401. The Barrier, which is the strongest Labour district in the State, was the only place where tho affirmative secured an overwhelming majority, the voting being—"Yes" 5426, and "No" 991. North Sydney, a powerful Liberal constituency, was the strongest "No"' centre, polling "Yes" 3740 and -'No" 1*2,110. The voting was comparatively light, but it is apparent that, to a certain extent, it was on party lines. Many electorates won by Labour at the elections last year, with small majorities, voted "No."
