DOMAIN BOARDS.

CHRISTCHURCH

The Domain Board met yesterday, when there were present —Messrs H. JBeswick (chairman). T. H. Davey, M.P-, W. B. Cooper. Geo. Harper, J. Wolfe, H. G. Ell, M.P., and the Mayor. The Chairman said this was the first meeting of the Board which had been held since the Fete. It was difficult to say what amou-it they would receive, but he might say that it would amount to £11200 or £1300 net. He thought their first duty would be to thank the Indies and gentlemen who had worked so well. The Citizens' Committee had recommended that all the money received over £1000 should be held over as a nucleus for future fetes. He had gone j n _ 0 the matter of what works they might do with the money. One of the first things to bo done was to augment their water supply, which was a much needed work. Then there was the question of nutting in order the large patch of rough ground which was divided by the long walk. The ground might be cleared so as to enable the grass to be cut. They also wanted new gate.>. It was also suggested that £200 should lie set aside as a nucleus for a winter garden. It was v very excellent thing, but most expensive-.' It would cost some £2000 ki build, and there would have to be a man in attendance. He thought, a.s they hrvl some ">UO acres which wanted imyvoving so as to be used to the l>e.st advantage for the public of Christchurch, this should be looked after first. He would now move: — '' That tho thanks of this Board he tendered to all these ladies and gentlemen who so generously assisted in carrying out the Fete, which has pre/lured such a handsome sum to augment the revenue of tho Board." Mr Cooper seconded the motion. With regard to tho winter garden, the Chairman had stated that it was an expensive matter, and he agreed with him. He desired to say that he was not the Mr Cooper who did not wish to see tho fetes continued, as it was on his resolution to the Board that tho fetes were started. The motion was agreed to. The question of dealing with the money raised at the fete was then discussed . The . Mayor said he would move: "That the sum of £?00 be placed on fixed deposit, e.s a nucleus in connection with any future fete." Air Cooper seconded the motion. The Mayor then moved: "That the question of the works to he done with the money at the disposal of the Board from the fete be referred to the Garden Committee, and tho henel gardener to report.*' Ho thought thoy could not afford to take up the question of a winter .-arden. Tt woulel prove too expensive for tho'.Board to consider. Mr George Hr.rner seconded the motion, which was agreed to. The Chairman brought Up the subject of tha Coronation subsidy. Tlio Mayor said that the City Council hatl works in view that would absorb more than tho amount which would be avnilablo. Mr Cooper moved: '•That the Board write to the Government with a view of ascertaining whether tho Government would be prepared to give a subsidy towards the cost of some work commemorative of the Coronation."

Trie Mayor seconded the motion, which was a creed to.

Mr George Humphreys wrote with reference to tbe claims of the Model Yacht Club. Ho urged that the club should.be allowed to retain undisturbed possession of Victoria Lake. The secretary of the .Model Yacht Club also wrote regarding the matter.

It was resolved that tho matter be referred to the Gardens Committee. ThcHagfcy Golf Club wrote asking' for permission :to extend their "pavilion, and' tho matter *va,s referred to the. chairman and Mr .Geo. Harper, with power to act.

Tt was resolved that the allocation of grounds for hockey, etc., be left in the hands of the secretary, and that the rental for all Jottings he the same as last year.

An application from the Band of Hope for *>erniission to hold the annual demonstration on Easter Monday on tho usual terms was granted. An application from the Cricket Association for permission to take up a collection in aid of the coach fund was agreed to on the usual conditions.

■Accounts to the amount of £100 Gs 6d were passed for payment. The credit balanco was reported as being £1091 18s Id.
