MR SAMUEL CARROLL.

The death is announced of Mr Samuel Carroll, aged 83 years. The late Mr Carroll has been secretary of the Wellington Chamber of Commerce since 1575.

[Mr Carroll was a well-known and respected citizen of Wellington. He was born in London in 1827, and eventually became a partner in his father's firm of S. Carroll and Son, produce brokers, Mincing lane. In 1853 ho went to Singapore and other Eastern countries, and finally, in 1802, ho sailed for New Zealand per ship Asterope. He filled the position of accountant to the New Zealand Steam Navigation Company, and remained in its employ for nine years, when it was wound up. Subsequently. Mr Carroll became secretary to the Wellington Chamber of Commerce. In 1872 he purchased the "Wellington Prices Current" from Mr M. Mosiey (now of Christchurch), and subsequently enlarged it, changing the name to the "Now Zealand Trade Review." which is a recognised authority on matters commercial in the Dominion.]
