THE STRATHCLYDE DOCKED.

Early on Saturday morning the disabled steamer Strathclyde was taken from tho berth at Ihe wharf where she had been lying since October 24th and was placed in dry dock by Captain Hunter, the vessel being shifted by the tuge Canterbury and Purau. In order to accommodate the Strathclyde the blocks in the bottom of the dock on which the steamer rests, had to be raised two feet, and even then there was very little room to spare- between the vessel's rolling chocks and bilges end the sides of the dock. During tho afternoon, the blade of the broken radder was taken off and lifted out of the dock by metns of the large crane. The weight oi the blade was about live tons, and

/ the big forging was placed on a railway truck and sent to Christchurch by tho 9.45 p.m. train. It has gono to the works of Messrs Stevenson »nd Cook at Port Chalmers, who have been entrusted with the making cf a new rudder and all damaged gear, and with tho carrying out of fill deck and engine repairs to the vessel. A survey of tho vessel has been held, but it ia understood that there is no serioue damage to the hull. The Strathclyde will b« floated out of dock to-morrow, and will be redocked when the new rudder is ready to be fitted. It is possible that the Strnthclydo may bo sot ready for sea by Christmas, bo far nothing:- has been arranged regarding her future movements, but she will probably go across to Australia to load.
