(Before Mr H. W. Bishop, S.M.) A first offender for drunkenness was •fined O3 and costs, in default 24 hours' Imprisonment. Angus Mathoson, whose record showed two previous convictions, •was fined 10s and costs, in default 48 hours in gnul. George Cotton was charged with assaulting his wife, Agnes Jane Cotton; also with trespassing on the premises of his wife, who had obtained a separation order against him. The defendant had recently been imprisoned for failing to comply with a maintenance order. The evidence showed that accused went to his wife's house and threatened to cut the throat of a man who boarded there. Later he attacked his wife and cut her arm and one of her fingers. The Magistrate warned accused not to appear before him again.. Whatever his wife's conduct might be, he had now no right to " interfere with her. (Before Mr G. A. Lewin, J. P.) William Harry Bagstaff, a stoker belonging, to H.M.S. Encounter pleaded guilty to charges of drunkenness and using obscene language on the Lyttelton railway station at midnight on Friday, and of assaulting Constable Williams in the execution of his diity. After hearing the evidence the Bench convicted and discharged accused for drunkenness, and .fined him 20s and costs on each of the other charges, and ordered him to pay 8s witness's expenses.
