LYTTELTON REGATTA.

A well-attended meeting of the General Committee of the Lyttelton Regatta Club was held on Friday night in the Lyttelton Borough Council Chambers, when the Mayor, Mr M. J. Miller, presided.

A letter was received from St. John's Amateur Swimming Club, stating that it could not undertake to carry out the swimming sports on. Regatta Day under the conditions named by the club. After some discussion it was decided to leave the matter of carrying out thu swimming sports in the hands of the secretary and treasurer, who were empowered to make the necessary arrangements with the Canterbury Centre of the New Zealand Swimming Association.

The definition of tho yachts eligible to enter in the second-clays handicap race was altered to read, "boats over 18ft and under 2oft water-line." The secretary was instructed to write to his Excellency Vice-Admiral Sir Richard Poore. C.V.0., asking him to allow H.M.S. Cambrian to be in port at Lyttelton on Regatta Day. It was stated that the New Zealand Shipping Company's new liner Rotonia would not be In Lyttelton on Regatta Day, and it would, therefore, be necessary to arrange for some other.vessel as "flagship." The New Zealand Shippine Company would probably have one of its first-class cargo steamers in Lyttelton that day. The collectors reported that subscriptions were coming in weU, and were well up to those received last year.
