For cycling without a light, Allan Blackie, Percy Cotton, and Frank (ireonbank were each tined 10s and costs, and .Nicholas Turner 5s and costs. Ixnvis Pickles, charged with driving his taxi-cab at other than a walking pace across a street crossing, pleaded that it was owing to a matter of urgency. Tlie police said the speed of tho "'taxi" at the timo was twelve miles an hour. A fine of os and costs was imposed. Albert Victor Thomson, for quitting a train whilst in motion, was fined 10s and costs. Robert Ellis, for permitting cows to wander at large on a public road in North Linwood. was fined 10s and costs. Thomas Guy. for permitting horses to wander at large at Papamii, -3s and costs. G. B. Steele, for permitting horses to wander at largo in St. Asaph street, was convicted and discharged. Malcolm Edward Norton and Herbert Newman, each for allowing horses to grazo in itufenced sections, were fined, respectively, ou and costs and 3s and costs. Samuel Wood, for failing to notify the Inspector of Factories of an accident in Jus factory, was lined 20s and coste. Charles Jiims, for interfering with tho high-pressure water supply without the consent of the City 'Council was convicted and ordered to pay costs. A young man named William Burridge pleaded guilty to three charges or theft. Two charges against accused were of, at Christchurch, on November 2nd, stealing a Gladstone ban and contents, ol a total value of £9, the property oi Alexander Weir; on November 19th, stealing two pairs of ladies' canvas shoes, and two pairs of ladies' boots, of the total value of £3 15s, the property of 11. Pannell and Co. ; and on September lGth, stealing a clock, valued at los, the property of Elsio Rod. The Court inflicted penalties of three months' gaol on the first charge, one month's on the second, and 14 days' on the third, the sentences to be concurrent. Burridge was then charged jointly with William Gibbons Thompson, a young well-dressed man, for whom Mr Cassidy appeared, with, on November 18th, at Linwood, breaking and entering the dwelling of William Sew el! and stealinr therefrom a gold chain, a gold gold bracelet, and gold and greenstone bangle, of the total value of £23 10s, .tho property of W. Scwell. and with, during November, at St. 'A!bans, breaking and entering the dwelling of Benjamin Nevin Martin, and stealing therefro/n two ladies' gold rings, one gentleman's gold ring, two gold bangles, one gold chain, old cable bangle, and gold pendant, of the total value of £54, the property of B. N. Martin. Upon the application of Chief Detective 'Bishop, tho accused were remanded until Thursday, bail bcinfx allowed Thompson. #
