SPRINGS. The Snririgs Road Board , met on Tuesday," all the member., being pre- I sent. A. Brown, presented a petition asking to be allowed to let the gates remain on Jarvis's road, on the lake, and was advised to make a legal application. Messrs Hoskin and Harris also waited on the Board and presented a petition signed. by thirty-three ratepayers and residents, asking the Board to put a temporary bridge over the L_ River while'the new bridge was being erected. As the contractor had , " undertaken to have the new bridge open in ten days, the Board could not - accede to the request. . Correspondence *. was read from the Ellcsrnero Road .1 Board, in reply, stating they would '. attend to the removal oi willows on their side of the Lower Selwyn. ._ circular was received from the Public Works Department, Wellington, advising that £100 was on the Estimates for the Groenoark-Motukarara road, ■• which, if passed, would be available, / and might be obtained iii the usual . way. lhe clerk was directed to make the necessary application for the money, when passed, and forward plans and specifications for the proposed expenditure. The Treasury, Wellington, advised the payment ot £98 Is 7d, subsidy on last year's rates. Tho -Selwyn County Council wrote stating they had decided to purchase . birds and eggs at 2d per dozen till December 31st. Three tenders were received for the erection of tlie bridge over the L 2 River (labour only), and \ that of R. Macartney, at £46 10s was accepted. Tho overseer reported that the contractors were making satisfactory progress with their work, and that a track had been blinded through the ford at Norwood. It was decided to replace a broken culvert on Chamberlain's road with 3ft pipes, and to replace a wooden bridge on the halfchain road with concrete. It was decided to hold the next meeting on December 23rd. Accounts amounting to , £191 18s od were passed for payment, j
