There will be a double market at the Aildincton yards on Wednesday, December 21st, and no sale on the followin;; week. Our Parliamentary correspondent telegraphs:—Complaints j )ave reac {i ct i the Agricultural Department in reference to the veterinary cebinets on sale by a Wellington company, and offered to farmers in Canterbury and elsewhere. These sales have been accompanied by a carefully-worded certificate of confirmation calculated to lead farmers to believe that they would get the MM-i'iers of « veterinary surgeon free of charge. Further enquiries are being mode, with a view of determining 'what can be done by the Government to prevent fanner*' being mislead by statements ealcnlrted to convoy an entirely wrong impression, and being thereby induced to purchase material inadequate for the purpose for which it is intended.

On Friday evening a social gathering wns held in the Fernskle School, U>r the purpose of saying pood-bye to Mr ami Mrs R. S. Pearson, who are leaving for Doyleston. During the evening Mr "\V r . .7. A meeting of the general committee of the Ellesmere A. and P. Association 1 was hold at Little River on Tuesday, Of >i>i u!t., the president (Mr W. H. Montgomery) being in the chair. There 1 was a good attendance of members. The Secretary reported that £13 2s (M had already been offered for special prizes at next year's show. The Treasurer presented an interim balancesheet in connection with the annual show, hold on November 22nd, which showed rereints £690 13s lld 4 expenditure .£527 Is 7d, leaving a credit balance of £163 12s 4d. The assets were £222 12s Crl, and the liabilities £97 17s. The net credit balance, after allowing for the 1909 debit, stood at £17G IDs 2d. The balance-sheet, as presented, was considered satisfactory, and adopted. Prize money and accounts amounting to £602 15s 4d, were passed for payment, and the president, treasurer, and secretary were auttiorised to pass any other accounts which may be presented in connection with the show. Several valuable suggestions tending towards improving the general management of the show, -were made, and these will no doubt be carried out by next year's committee. On the motion of Mr J. M. Murray, a hearty vote of thanks was passed to the president, the vice-president, and treaslirer, for their work in connection ■with the show.

Tho Sisters of Nazareth will shortly pay their annual visit to tho Southbricfoo district for the purpose of raising funds for the carrying on of Xaaareth House, at Christchurch, -a homo, for aged and infirm people and orphan children. The devotional services that are held on alternate Sunday evenings throughout the summer at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Southbridge, have commenced, and have so far been well attended. Last Sunday evening the Rev. Father Hills announced his intention of giving an address of instruction at each evening service on one of tho seven sacraments, and to in other Mays review the- church catechism. His address last Sunday evening was attentively listened to and preatly appreciated by the congregation.

The following directors of the Ashburton Co-oparative Dairy Factory Company have been appointed an executive ''committee:—The chairman (Mr John Grigg), the deputy-chairman (Mr Charles Reid), and Messrs G. W. Loadley, H ; A. Lloyd, G. Rick, and PL H. Sharplin. TJio tender of Mr R. Jennings lias been accepted for cartage in connection with the main factory. Messrs G. W. Leadley and \V. >T. Lill have been appointed +o endeavour to make arrangements for sending cream to the factory from the Wnkanui and Willow by districts. Telegrams have been received from the Hon. T. Mackenzie (Minister of Agriculture). Mr W. Noswortby, M.P., and Mr Guddie (Dairy Commissioner) expressing regret at being unable to be present at the opening ceremony in connection with the factory, and wishing the industry every success. At a meeting of the directors of the company, the following resolution, was carried unanimously :—"That the resignation of Mr Hugo FTiedlander, as the chairman, and as a director of the company, be accepted with regret. The directors wish to place on record their lugh appreciation of the valuable services of Mr Friedlarider, who had given his time most unnrudfjingly in promoting the interest of the company." Mr William Hndsell. of Ashhurton, who liad been in the employ of Messrs Friedlnndcr Bros. v in their grain stores, for .about thirty years, nrid who has now retired, was, on Monday, presented by the firm with a substantial token of their appreciation of his long and faithful services.
