Mr Charles Nuttall, an Australian artist, who returned via Europe from the United States, by the German mail steamer Bremen last -week, said in an interview: —"There is such a big demand lor artistic -work in N«rw York that any man with original ideas and matter Ls absolutely suro of a field there. Money does not count. The man "who has succeeded in Melbourne should certainly succeed in New York, hut there is no earthly chance for the third-rater. Investigations made by tho "New York Times" show that there are one* hundred men in New York making a thousand a year and moie. The most successful artiat in the world from a money point of view is Harrison Fisher, who is reported to earn £20,000 a year. His art may be summed up as coloured prettiness.
