CONFERENCE IN SYDNEY
United Press Association —By Electrio Telegraph—Copyright. SYDNEY, October 28. The Country Press Conference discussed the Typographical Association's demands, and reaffirmed its adhesion to the agreement of the last conference, with the addition : —''The Country Press Association consents to grant preference to unionists, when it can bo shown that such preference substantially represents a majority of tho omployees in every branch of tho country newspaper and job printing trade."
The Premier, Mr McGowen, addressing the conference, promised to consider an amendment to tho Defamation Act, with a view te protecting newspapers from speculative libel actions, and particularly against tho seizure of their plants in tho case of adverse verdicts.
