ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY.
A meeting of the council of tho North Canterbury Acclimatisation Society was held on Wednesday evening, Dr. Moorhouse presiding over a fair attendance of members. The election of officers of the council for the ensuing year wns proceeded with. Dr. B. M. Moorhouse was reelected mesident, and Dr. Morton Anderson and Mr G. B. Ritchie vicepresidents. Other offices were filled as follows:—Auditor, Mr Bruce; supcrnumerarv members of the council, Rev. Mr Holloway, Messrs Righton, Reid, and Brown ; Garden Committee, Messrs .Sloman, Cotton, Shand, Delacour, Tisdall, and Townend; Deer Committee, Dr. Moorhouse, Dr. Anderson, an/1 Messrs Sioman, Heaton Rhodes, Gerard and Deans. Mr W. H. Tirdall was elected a member of tho council to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Mr Nicholl. A mr.tion was passed expressing the sympathy of the council with the relatives of'the iate Mr Nicholl in their bereavement, and appreciation of the many services rendered to acclimatisation by the deceased gentleman. The Minister for Internal Affairs wrote consenting to a specimen deer head being obtained from the Rakaia held. Notice was received that tho conference of AccHmntisatk n f-'ocietics would ba held in Wellington in Jiily next. Attention was drawn to the unsatisfactory state of the Selwyn mouth., an-.l the secretary wa.s instructed to obtain an estimate of the cost of dredging it clear. The Gardens Committee reported that Mr C. O. T. Rutherford had liberated geeso at Lake Taylor. An American wrod-duck had been sold to the Otago Society for £5. A hearty vote of thank.-; was passed to Mr Rutherford for his assistance.
