THE COMPETITIONS.
His Majesty's was well filled last night oh the occasion of the Demqijstration Concert, which marked the conclusion of the Competitions under the auspices of tlie Musical and Literary Competitions Society. His Worship the Mayor presided, and all the winners in the various" events took part in the programme except the Greymouth choir, which had to return home. The Sydenham Methodist Choir, however, under Mr Geo. Daltry, gave a capital interpretation of the two numbers which formed the themes in the contest. The judge. Mr C. N. Baeyertz, gave a humorous monologue, which was greatly appreciated. All the other items on a very long programme were given with great success. In an interval of the programme the Mayor, as president of the Society, thanked those who had taken part in the whole of the contests which h;*d b?en carried out in a hitrhly sitceessful manner. The Dunedin Competitors, of course, from their long experience, were iv advance of those here, but judging by tbe manner in which the conrefition which was now concluding had been conducted. Christchurch would not be long before it occupied the premier position. Mr I. Kerens thanked those who had assisted the Society by donations, and especially Mecsrs Milner and Thompson and Messrs Webloy and Gofton for tlie gratuitous use of pianos for the competition.
