CAPTACN SCOTT'S EXPEDITION. FEDERAL GOVERNMENT REFUSES ASSISTANCE. United Press Association—By Electrio Telegraph—Copyright. (Received May 25th, 11.15 p.m.) MELBOURNE, May 25. The Federal Government has declined to accede to Captain Scott's request to grant £1000 towards his Antarctic expedition. Mr E. L. Batchelor, Minister of External Affaire, states that as tho Imperial Government is contributing £20,000 to the expedition, and as Sir Ernest Shackleton did not receivo any assistance from the Imperial Government, the conditions of the two expeditious arc not tho same.
