THE DEFENCE FORCES.

. The following district order has been issued by Licut.-Colonel Hawkins, V ,U., District Commandant:— Farewell to his .Excellency the Governor.—With reference to "D.0.. No. b/10, para. 6, Garrison parade on the 30th inst., at 7.30 p.m. The escort to his- Excellency the Governor will be furnished by the Canterbury Mounted R-fles. acting under special instruction. Tho iiuard of honour of 100 rank and file,' with a captain in command, two subaltern officers (one carrying regimental colours), and a -.-roportion of sergeants, will be furnished by the Ist Bati.ilion North Canterbury Infantry. His Excellency will hold a levee in the Provincial Council Chambers on Tuesday. 31st May, to which all officers are invited. Officers will wear full dress: those officers not in possession of full dress will be permitted to attend in service dress.

King's Birthday.—All troops of tho Garrison, including Defence Cadets, will parade at Cranmer square on Friday, 3rd June, at 11.30 a.m.. for the ,-prurpose of firing; a jeii-de-joie. F. Battery F.A. will fire a royal salute of twentyone guns. The senior officer at the different centras will make the necessary local nrraiisempn.s to hold a ceremonial p-arads and firo.a fen-de-ioie.
