Mr T. A. B. Bailey, S.M., presided at the Magistrate's Court yesterday. TOLICE CASES.

One first offender for drunkenness was fined os and costs, in default twenty-four hours' imprisonmentHarry Harris, a second offender, who was drunk on the railway station platform, was fined _0s and costs, in default forty-eight hours' imprisonment. Jas. AUiston Mcintosh, also a second offender, was fined 10s and costs, in default forty-hours' imprisonment. Mary Barclay, a fourth offender, ivas ordered to come u,pf for sentence when called upon. Thomas Bonis was convicted on a charge of drunkenness while in charge ot two horses, and fined _ots and costs for resisting the* police, and a similar amount for hehaving in a manner calculated to provoke a breach of the peace. Patrick Moreiajid (Mr Leathern) was charged with using obscene language.. The Magistrate, after hearing the evidence, said that he -was not satisfied obscene- language had been used, and di-missed the case. Rupert Isaac (Mr Cassidy) was charged with on May 19th breaking and entering the house of Wm. J. Dunne with intent to commit a crime, lie pleaded "Not. guilty." From the evidence of Mrs Dunne, it appeared that the man wandered into tho house in a drunken state during her absence, not knowing whose place it was. and went to sleep on one of the beds. No criminal intent had been shown. The Magistrate, dismissed the case. THEFT OF BICYCLES. Patrick John Thomas Leach pleaded guilty to stealing a bicycle valued at £20,* the property of J. M. Glover. Win. Williams also admitted to the theft of a bicycle-valued at £'15. the p:o,pierty of Walter Myers. •Sub-In-spector McGrath said that the parts of the bicycles had been interchanged. The Magistrate- fined each accused £10. in default one month's imprisonment. COMMITTED FOB TRIAL. William Duncan, alias John Duncan, alias Henry Brown, alias William Alien, an old man, was committed for trial on a charge of indecently assaultj ing a girl ten years of age. LYTTELTOX. (Before Mr H; W. Bishop. S.M.) Frank Gallagher, who had been before the Court on several occasions during th* past few months, appeared to answer two charges of procuring liquor during the currency of a prohibition order. Accused was fined 20s and costs on each charge, with the alternative of fourteen days' imprisonment. Anders Johanson and Samuel Alexander _Hushes were also charged with procuring liquor during the currency of prohibition orders. It being their first appearance, tney were convicted, and each fined 10s and costs, in default 48 hours' imprisonment. Frederick Cleave Jones was ordered to contribute the sum of two shillings per week towards tiic maintenance of his mother.

Elizabeth Reilly claimed from John Radeliffo tho sum of £'l, 8s on a- judgment order. Defendant, who did not appear, was ordered to pay the amount fortlnvith, and to go to gaol for three days. GIvRALDLXE. (Before Mr V. G. Bay, S.JI.) Alex. Saunness. who was charged by the Government Inspector with "failing to clear his farm of Calif oTiiiair thistle, elc, was convicted and ordered to pay costs. The Inspector employed by the Stcck Department prosecuted several individuals for exposing lousy sheep at at the sale yards. .Mrs 7>e Renzy and, A. Lrquhart, who did not appear, were fined 40s and 20s respectively, and 7s costs. Peter Friel and Crowe Bros., •who .deaded yuilty, wore each fined 40s iuid 7.i costs. 8. "\V. Marsh, Hinds, also pleaded guilty, and was fined -10s and # 12s'costs, with us expenses for seivint; tbo 'summons. Barker and llarklie, wlio stated that the majority ol their sheep had been dipped, were fined 10s and 7s costs. ASHBURTOX. (Before Mr W. W. White, J.V.) A first offender, charged with drunkenness, was convicted and discharged with a caution.
