NOTES AND MEMORANDA.
A meeting of importers and others interested will bo held under the auspices of the Chamber of Commerce in the hall, of the Chamber at three o'clock tcrday, to consider the advisableness of employing a marine surveyor to watch the interests of im> porters during the discharge of cargo from vessels. To-morrow night, at eight o'clock, an organ recital is to be given by Mr Firth, F.R.C.0., in the Durham, street Methodist Church on the electro-pneu-matic organ. There will also be vocal music. A lecture will be given on Halley's and other comets-by Mr Hitchings, of tho Sydenham Observatory, at .St. Andrew's Schoolroom, Tuam street west, to-morrow, at 8 p.m. The lectun- ,- will be illustrated by numerous unique lantern slides. The Marist Bros. Old Boys' Association intend holding an Irish national concert in the Choral Hall on June 16th, 1910, in aid of tho Marist Bros.' School renovation fund. Tho Rndrre-Whitworth' Cur> and medak, to be competed for at the Kaiapoi Carnival, "on the King's Birthday, are on view at Mr S. }{. Whale's premises, High street, Kaiapoi.
