SMALLPOX.

PERTH, May 23
Dr.. Bowkett, ship's surgeon of the Otway, in his evidence stated that he had never seen a case of smallpox before the case of the boy on tho ship. Hβ explained his reasons for regarding the case as one of sun-fever. The hearing was adjourned.
The doctor of the Otway is being proceeded against for failure to detect a smallpox patient, this having been followed by a serious outbreak of the disease. The Health Officer in his evi.dfcnee alleged that if a proper examination of the boy who was h'rst affected had been made", the ship's doctor could not have failed to diagnose the troupe as srnallnox.
