News has been received that the steamer Kirkfield, bound from Christmas Island to Kobe, laden with phosphates, struck a shoal in the Palaway passage. The crew strove for seven days to keep the vessel afloat, but she sank. The crew reached Balabac in boats, after a trying journey of tbirtyono hour's. -' -

The steamer Kilburn has been wrecked on the Ethel Reef in the Y.asama Archipelago. The mate arrived at Lautoka to-day, and returns immediately. The Amra is to go to the us*sistance of the crew.
