ASHBURTON.
There was a sharp frost in Ashburton during Friday night, tho Domain weather gauge' registering eleven degrees. Messrs C. J. Harper and H. H. Sharplin havo been nominated :.s candidates fortho seat on the Ashb'irton County Council rendered'vacant by the resignation! of Mr E. Gates. A meeting of the 'Ashhurton Lodge of Oddfellows, M.U., iras held on Friday. Bro. E. H. Childs, X.G., presiding. A better of recommendation was granted to a member who is leaving Ashburton for Wanganui. The committee' was empowered to havo the stage of the hall lighted with electricity. In connection with tho centenary of the Order, it was reported that the event was to bo celebrated by a banquet, xo "bo held in September next, and ' the Lodge appointed a delegate to act on the committee.
