MINERS ON STRIKE.

TROUBLE AT PAPAROA

(-FECIAL. TO "THE PBBSS.") GREYMOUTH, April 17. A startling incident of Friday was the inauguration of a miners' strike at Paparoa. It appears that a private agreement between the erranoyers and tfie miners had been signed by all except, one miner. It is contended that the agreement cuts one way only. The miner in question. it is stated, on going to the mine yesterday morning, was refused a safety lamn. The other miners thereupon stopped work for a day as a protest against this action. There was no work at tho mine yesterday, as it was pay Saturday, but if the present intentions remain unaltered the men will go back on Monday. Tho men also demand a conference with the manager, as desired by the Union's letter of a week ago, in order to review matters which at present create friction.
