NORTH SYDNEY DIFFICULTIES.
Yesterday's cables ropcrted that North (Sydney «nd adjacent suburbs ■vvero in darkness, owing to the gas supply failing. This possibility was discussed by the directors of the North Bhoro Gas Company on Tuesday of last week. Seen after tho meeting, Mr Morclanc', manager of the company, said there was no change- CTccept for tho worse, as the supply of gas was gradually diminishing without any probability of replenishment. Ho had, he said, been instructed by tho directors to buy coal at any price, but it was not to bo got. Hβ had approached the Government in ths hope that a part of their stock might bo made available, but was told that the whole of their sup-ply was required for the railways.' Not oven Japanese coal could be purchased , . The gae sujpply was expected to run out in a week, «nd that actually happened, plunging tho whole of the municipalities of North' Sydney, Mosman, Lane Cove, and Willimi.gh.by into darkness, with the exception of small areas lighted by th<? tramway authorities.
