FINANCING THE AUSTRALIAN TOUR.

A special general meeting of the New Zealand Cricket Council was held Inst night. Present—Messrs F. "Wilding (chairman), J. Young, H. C. Ridley (Auckland), G. F. Francis (Wanganui), S. Orchard (Southland), H. S. Barns (Manaimtuj, E. J. Austin, D. H. Thompson (Otago). C. Trcweek (Taranaki South), G. T. Weston (Wairarapa) D. Reese (Canterbury), R. \ incent (hon. treasurer"), F. C. Raphael (secretary), and Dr. Orchard (Rangitikei). Mr Martin Luckio, representing the Wellington Association, was also present. Tho meeting was called at the request of the Management Committee, to consider the refusal of the Wellington Association to join in the cial proposals in connection with the. proposed visit of the' Australian eleven. The secretary (Mr F.. C. Raphael) said the Wellington Association declined to agree to the proposal that it, with the other three big. Associations, should contribute £100 With a pro rata refund if the tour did not cost tho amount contributed. The matrh between the Australian Juniors and V.M.C.A. was commenced a: Lancaster Park yesterday. The Australians made 74 (Jenkins 29), and Gti for 4 wickets (Bright 31, Jenkins 27 not out). Tlie V.M.C.A. made 124 in tiieir first innings (Rawson 40, Bascand 24, Golding 20 liot out, Pollard 10, and Howarth 11). For the Australians Bright, 5 for 30, and Ferguson 3 for 30, bowled well, as did Howarth, 5 for 33, and Wilson 3 for 21, for the V.M.C.A. The Veterans yesterday defeated a team from Beath and Co.'s employees. Beath and Co mado 74 (Ferguson 13, Richie 16, Kassal 11;, and the Veterans made 106 (Bloxam 17, Mann 17, Stillwell 32).
