The Domain Board has decided to recommend that the piece of ground near the hospital, known as No. 2 root- i bali ground, be levelled and prepared for tennis courts. The Cemetery Board has a credit balance of £344 9s 6d at the bank ( The management of the Oddfellows Hall has decided to obtain an estimate for installing electric light in the building. , ~ At the meeting of the Borough Council on Monday night, in reply to a letter from the secretary of "Ihe i imam Military Carnival, it was decided to ask the Railway Department to run a special train from Ashburton, provided the Council was not asked to give any guarantee. It was decided that a by-law be made on the lines of the Christchurch by-law No. 3, 1907, relating to motor cars and motor bicycles. The Town Clerk notified that no cases of infectious disease within the borough had been reported during the past month. Permits for buildings not exceeding £900 had been granted for the outer area. The special order levying the rate in connection with the highpressure water scheme, was confirmed, and the Mayor and Cr. Nicoll spoke in complimentary terms of the manner in which the Town Clerk had carried out his duties in connection with the raising of the loan. RANGIORX. There was a large gathering at Victoria square on Monday evening, when the brass band gave a good programme of music. The Mayor (Mr C. W. Bell) took advantage of the occasion to address the citizens on the doingsof the Beautifying Society, and on their need of funds, and asked them to support the concert to be held this evening. A card and billiard tournament among members of the Fire Brigade, for prizes given by Mr R. H. Walker, has just been concluded. The winner for the billiards was Mr G. F. Humphreys with ten points handicap, Mr James Coates being second with twentyfive points. Each won all games played, the only points against them being for unplayed' games. 'Mr A. Miller won the card tournament, Mr W. McCracken coming second, after playing off a tie with Mr H. D Bettger.
