MOVING PICTURES.
THE BUBGBSSES' ASSOCIATION'S
RESOLUTION.
MANAGERIAL STATEMENTS.
In the course of an -interview yesterday with a member of the staff of ■'The Press," Messrs H. Hayward (Pathe Pictures) and - Rud.. Petersen (World Wide Pictures) expressed their surprise at the. resolution passed by the Burge&ses , . Association the attention of the Inspector.: of Police to the questionable; character of some;of thct pictures exhibited in Christchurch. They emphatically "denied that any siiith ' pictures had" ever beein exhibited by them. It was pointed, out that matinees-had been givW for some months'past on Saturdays-and were largely "attended," mainly by ladies and children. The pictures exhibited on th<«e occasions were the current ones shown every night. Not. the slightest complaint was ever made, there being no occasion for such. On the contrary, letters had' been received from those in charge of, various institutions, the children from which had'been admitted to see the pictures, speaking in bi«h , terms of .praise of \the character of the pictures.' A very large proportion of the pictures dealt with industrial work,, conveying sound and useful instruction as regarded the world's work. Scenery from all parts of the world ah» formed a good- part of the pictures. In the dramatic portion the subjects illustrated tho punishment of vice and the rewarding of honesty and virtue. To say that any pictures of a questionable nature were ever shown was a statement which was totally devoid of ..truth, and- this could be substiintiated by the thousands of people wTi:o every week ■ attended the shows. Both managers esserted" that the xitmost care was exercised by them to obtain only films of a character that would entertain aud instruct."
