CASUALTIES.
The police have boon informed that tho body of a child was fit-on in the Hoatbcotc river near tho Estuary, but all attempts to locate it yesterday proved unsuccessful. (press association telegrams.) NAPIER, March 18. A fight, having rathor serious results, occurred at tho Park Racecourse yesterday. A man named John Bibby, well known in connection with a buckju:npiu££ show, picked a quarrel, it :s aik-ytd, with a Maori called Joo Tarelia, and a stand-up fight resulted in Bibby receiving a blow in the region of tho heart, which rendered him unconscious. He was removed to tho Hospital, wluro he still lies unconscious. Tareha was arrested, and charged at the Court to-day with unlawfully assaulting Bibby and causing actual bodily harm. Accused, was remanded till to-morrow, and bail was refused. GISBOBNE, March 18. About 5.30 p.m. to-day Miss Annie Parker, aged 30. daughter of Mr C. J. Parker, of Makaraka, ■was drowned while attempting to cross the Xuhaka river at Stewart's crossing, with her brother Frank, in a buggy and pair. The vehicle and. horses f were swept down the stream and lost.
