Tho Christen inch City Rifles held tiheir annual smoke concert and j>resontation of prizes at tueir orderlyroom on Monday night. Cap-tain Farthing presided, and had with lam Lieutenant- Colce. and a large attend.uite ol tneiubcre. There were present a number of officers and non-coms, from the Christehurch and Lyttolton Garrisons. Alter t,hc usual loyal toast, the healths of tho district, and battalion stalls (responded to by Captains McGee and Emitis), the prize-winners (responded to by Sergeant Thorite, beltwinner), kindred co; ps, and others wore honoured. Tito priies won during the year's shooting competitions, the elassrhing prize to Corporal Gapes, and tne recruiting prize to Private Horgan were presented. The following received service badges:—Corporal Hare and Private Mclvinley (six years), Corporal Huibert, Lancc-C-orporals Arlow and WilJcox, Privates Chapman. Guniry, Smith and R. Underwood (three yeans). Songs and recitations were contributed by Deputy-Bandmaster Tankard. Ser-goant-Major Hopkins, Sergeant Pitt, Corporal Gapes, Privates O'Callaghan and Plum ridge, and others. During th© evening the following promotions were announced: —Corporals Glover and Hunter to be sergeants, LancoCorporal Hulbert and Private Strong to be corporals. Privates Bigg-Wither, Parkin, and Willcox to bo lance-cor-porals.
