CHRISTCHURCH SPORTS CLUB.

Tho annual meeting of the Christchurch Sports Club was held on Tuesday evening, when there wero present— Messrs J. R. Evans (chairman), W. G. Atack, A. Dickson. C. T. Aschman, A. R. Kirk, W. J. Moir, J. R. Olliver, and T E. Robson (hon. secretary). Mr J. F. GrieTson forwardied an apology for absence. The annual report of th© committee congratulated tho members on the successful year that had been experienced, and it -was satisfactory to be able to report that tho standard of boxing in Christchiiroh was steadily Improving. Four tournaments had been held .during the year, and the manner in which they had been supported' demonstrated that the interest in the sport was as keen as ever it was. - Christchwroh competitors had assisted at tournaments heJd during the year at Timaru and Dunedin and had'been successful in winning several prizes, and good results had been attained in connection with th© instituted at Christ's College and tihe Boys' High School. The mattea- of the A-ssociation possessing its own. building in which to carry out competitions had. been referred to in last season's report, and the hope had been expressed that members would show their ap<proval of tho scheme by assisting financially. It was pleasing to record l that. the project had been weJ. received! by members, who had taken up debentures, to the amount of about £1100. Plans and estimates Liad been secured! fox th© erection of a building capable of seating somo 1700 persons, but the cost was prohibitive. An estimate was now being prepared' for a less pretentious building, and the committee trußtect that sufficient financial support would bo forthcoming to enable this woa-k to be carried out. The operations of the club were very _ conwdJerably handicapped under existing conditions, aid if those .members who hud withheld financial support would! take but one debenture each, the project would be speedily earned' to a successful issue.

The bailanoe-sheet showed:—Receipts £769 8s 8d (including balance brought forward £69 12s Sd,, subscriptions hon. members £100 2s, receipts from competitore £588 13s); expenditure £582 Is Id (including.expenses of four competitors £452 4s 6d, half share profits to New Zealand Council championship meeting £59 17s lOd); credit balance £187 7s 7d. The report and balance-sheet wero adopted on tho motion of the chairman, seconded by Mr Aschman, who stated that whatever might be said of sport generally, boxing was certainly not doad in Christchurch. The Hon. H. F. Wigram wrote resigning his position as president of tho club. . The following officials and committee were electtd:—President, Dr. Th.acker; vice-presidents, Lieut.-Colonel Chaffey, Messrs R. H. Rhodes, M.P., T. H Davey, M.P., C. A. C. Hardy, M.P., E. J. Grigg, Geo. Humphreys, and J F. Wachsm-ann: bon. secretary and treasurer, Mr T. E. Robson; committee, Messrs A. T. Washer, F. \. Hornibrook, A. Dickson and W. J. Moir; hon. auditor. Mr J. Jackman. It was decided- to grant an honorarium of £30 to the hon. secretary a " d treasurer, nnd an honorarium o. £2 2s to the auditor.
