FARMERS' UNION.
Tho executive of tho Canterbury branch of thc New Zealand Farmers' Union met at the Employers' Association rooms yesterday afternoon. Mr D. Jones (president) was in the chair. The Hon. J. A. Millar wrote in reference to resolutions regarding alteration of the train service on the Waipara-Domett section, and the extending of suburban rates to Little River and Southbridge, that ho would be pleased to receive a tion on his next visit to Christchurch. Tho letter was received. Mr It. iS. Badger, secretary to the Thursday half-holiday movement committee, forwarded a manifesto issued by ihe committee in regard to the proposed alteration of tho weekly half-holi-day, and asked for the support of tho Executive. The following resolution was carried after slight discussion:—"That the Executive, while not wishing to interfere with the townspeople, would prefer the retention of 'i'nursday as tne half-holiday. - ' Mr J. Ritchie, Secretary of Agriculture, wrote stating that the resolution passed by the Canterbury' A. and P. Association (that the Government be urged to make i_ compulsory that an analysis be given with all live-stock foods and condiments) would receive attention. The letter was received. The Provincial conference was fixed for May 27th and 28th.
